I'm not a genius genius though. or Timothy Leary for that matter.

What i did do is get up around noonish after reading all the articles for my journal paper on copyright. it seems that one of the authors o' one of the articles thinks that everything on the internet is automatically copyrighted if it shows enough originality. does this mean that all those people who think everything is touched by the copyright gods are *right*? god, i hope not. anyway, i'm now more cornfuzed about the whole subject than when i started. i hope my prof is happy, goddammit.

just so you know that i'm not such a studious person, i did finish the book for the DCS book group last night too, a real stinking heap of garbage called "Perfect Trust" by S. Hardy Brondos. (buy your own overpriced copy at http://www.waywardbooks.com!) i hope to god it's a penname, otherwise i'm coming after her ass.

Not that i didn't know it was going to suck rocks, but *still*...the straight men who'd never given a thought to being gay until they had their dicks in each other's mouths, the incredibly catty and possessive women who swarm around them like their god's gift and sob uncontrollably that another one has been "turned", the heroic yenta who nobly sacrifices herself to save our two boring dipshits, and after their first sexual encounter they are promptly arrested and are thrown into lockup with a dozen or so toughies.

Tom Fontana, fess up-- it was *you*, wasn't it?

anyway, i perform these monthly sacrifices on my grey matter just to hang out with the DCSers. yes, they're that cool. but part of me is starting to get desperate wondering if i'm doomed to read sucky book club books till i leave and move to Chitown. it doesn't help that books i want us to read are usually out of print, bleah.

so. i got up, and actually cleaned a tad, then went up to Drexel (and am still here, typing away) to do research on my project that coming due on Monday about the Public Library Association, which is a pretty nifty group, if i say so myself. they're concerned about libraries for social change, yadda yadda yadda and all that good stuff, but it actually makes me feel all dewy-eyed and fresh-faced and librarian-like to read all the neat things some of the organization mems are doing. (yeah, Mary, you'll feel good about all this till the weight of the world crushes your spirit-- admit it!) plus the library here has some pretty hilarious portraits in it, even by institutional standards. my favorite is a humorless old coot with glasses that look much like mine. he's looking askance at the camera with the expression, "I'm *not* going to pay a lot for this library!"

and driving up to Philly today was nice too-- blue skies, nice and warm, not to breezy, listening to NPR's "The Saavy Traveler" and a fucking hysterical guy from Manchester, England being forced to go back home to do a report on his home city. the way he talked about the place was hilarious-- the English gift for self-deprecation and wit is only matched by their deep-seated love of booze.

Whenever i hear about Manchester i think of two things: Queer as Folk (which didn't get a mention in the report, sad to say) and the last one night stand i had, back a couple of years ago, a funny alcoholic friend of a friend named Simon. We had the sexual chemistry of a sodden heap of matches, but hey! it's a one-night stand. expectations are already nonexistent. the moral of the story? uh, there isn't one. this is me you're talking to.

That whole trip me and Neil took that year was one distaster after another, come to think of it. from being taken as a couple of suckers everywhere we went (we were), to having to watch my back everywhere i went in Romania (i did), and basically feeling like i had to hightail it back to the States like a chickenshit American (i am), it was a mess. but hey, i can laugh about it now, right? yeah. and even still, i'd like to go back and get a second opinion on the whole dealie. I liked Hungary pretty well, but i'd like to go back to Romania under different circumstances and really get to wander around and look at stuff like old crumbly castles and more of the mountains, not run out of money and have to git.

oh well, gotta head back down the road and write that damn journal about copyright. oh yeah, and get around to doing my presentation too, so no Bindlechat for me tonight either. if you guys were wondering where i've been, i'm pretty much in the same boat Giuliana is these days. (btw, Giu, i got a 4)

P.S.
