as I've said before, i'm in this bookclub that's focused on slashy subtext in published work. Which is cool, if we actually discussed a book that didn't suck, waaahhhh! Ah hell, i only go to these things to socialize and catch up on my buddies and to see how they're doing, and maybe, just maybe, some neato book discussion. They're a fun buncha women, otherwise i'd never make the trek. it's a bit of a hike.

Tonight's book is "Perfect Trust" by S. Hardy Brondos, and *wow* guys, don't read this one. Really. But i think i've said that before. Actually, i think i've said it over and over again, but what the hell, one can never warn enough.

February's book was "The Dreyfus Affair", and that was a little stinkburger as well. They should make bookcovers with the following Caution: Contents may cause nausea and vomiting.

And to think, just today someone on slashy-pronovels was talking about what a wonderful book it is, and it reminded me all over again that none of us really read/watch/listen to the same thing. Which is pretty neat, for the most part. But TDA? Oh dear lord.

It didn't help that i was a bit snarky about the book, saying that i had a copy and i can NOT give it away. It's true! I bought the book from ebay, then checked it out of the library because the order was taking so long. Now i've lost the book somewhere in one of the tame black holes in my room, and when i practically begged the library to take my own toxic waste dump of a book, they said nah.

So Vali and i created scenarios in our heads where the librarians waited till we were out of earshot, then collapse into hysterical fits of laughter.

"Can you believe it? We've wanted to weed that one from the shelf for *ages*! No fuckin' way we're taking that shit back!"

So once again i pleaded, this time with the lady on the list asking her to Take My Dreyfus Affair, please. No response.

*sigh*

This is going to turn into one of those horror movie scenarios like in Stephen King's The Monkey where he tries to tie up the demonspawn and pitches it in the lake only to make its Evil Return. I could chuck it out of my car and at the next stoplight there'll be a harried, red-faced man saying "You dropped this back there, i thought i'd---" only to have me run the red light, rubber peeling, tires screaming.

101 Ways to Get Rid of The Dreyfus Affair. Skeet Dreyfus. Dreyfus Rifle Practice. Operation Praxis Drop. Or what's left of Praxis, that is.

soooo, Ms. Brainaic, why didn't you just check out the book in the first place and save your money, you say? You *could've* waited just a little longer and saved yourself a few bucks. Well, you see, that would be the utmost of common sense, and for that you'll have to be destroyed.

I can't wait to see what they'll come up with tonight. I've gave up trying to suggest things back in February-- thank god the will to snark is still kicking, though.

Most people don't know this, but i have a real mean streak in me. (no, *stop*, really?) I was thinking about responding to JustAmy's journal asking why people can be such pricks, when i realized that i'm part of the problem myself. Please don't respond to this, guys. i'm not looking for anyone to disagree with me.

I never get people (people in general, not really thinking of anyone specific) who are proud of the fact that they can cut someone down and slice 'em to pieces-- that's easy. what has always cracked me up in fandom is that i somehow got a reputation for being a Miss Priss when i can outnasty anything that's ever been thrown at me. Want the cheap shot? I've got it. Like i said, it's pathetically easy to be cruel--- Easy to be HAAAAAARRRRD... sorry, had to do it-- but recognizing that you have bastard tendencies and resolving not to give into them is much better. Although i do slip up occasionally, like last night, or when the subject's our book group choices. I can't wait to see what we're reading next week.

And just to show you that i can occasionally say something nice, here's a Brit QaF story by Mallory Klohn that's amazing. Thanks for pointing it out to me, Beth!

Mmm, one more hour to go. Not a bad work day today, really-- nice and mellow and a minimum level of interaction with people that make me see red.

That subject line just made me laugh. I don't know why. I think I'm being more random than usual tonight.

That is all, carry on...

That's one Vali and I came up with. I've been meaning to use it for ages!
