Hmm. Must be dinnertime.
In other news, i'm completely stressed. i don't even know what to do first these days. it all seems too much, Scarlet! I must lie down with a cool compress!
I think i hit on a common demoninator with all my friends and people that i love, something that got demonstrated last week. I like people who don't think in absolutes. It's easier to be a black or white thinker and i'm sure there's some sense of security in it, but it rings false in my ears and kills all discussion.
Not all people who claim to be patriots wrap themselves in the American flag and vandalize mosques. Okay, i guess that's my one absolute.
I'm a little touchy these days when i see the flag. i know the majority of people are uniting behind what the flag stands for and it's a comfort, but it's the small percentage of people that make me embarrassed and ashamed to call myself a patriot. I feel bad when i hear the American freaks of the world disenfranchise themselves from the word "patriot". I said it a while back, but what the hey, i'll say it again, we have to take the word back from the Tim McVeighs of the world who'll stand behind it and twist it to their own ends. Like the word "queer" was reclaimed.
America is all of us citizens (and others who live here) whether we like it or not. We can let them speak for us or we can add our voices to the crowd and make it diverse like it really is.
I really like what Meathead said in All in the Family: I love my country, that's why i protest when i think things are wrong.

Eh. Me and Meathead think alike most days.
Sorry, i didn't mean to turn this into a speech. This has been something i've been thinking about long before this happened and it seemed like a prime time to discuss it.
A patriot who hates country music. What is the world coming to? ;-)
To the guys out there who can't find flags-- one of the doofuses in the barracks took one of the pop-up targets from the range and painted the stars and bars on it. it looks like a garden gnome that has been taken over! He's our lil mascot. it looks weird though with what looks like .22 holes all in him. Maybe it's oddly appropriate, i don't know.
Maybe i need some glue... sniff...
