Does anyone know of a good shareware program to make an animated .gif?

For a Mac?

I tried GIF builder and all I got were a lot of blurry pixels moving around.

Have you looked on Tucows? (http://www.tucows.com)

You know, I'll bet if I saved the files as a gif or a tiff file instead of a jpeg it'll work more gooderer. Anyway, that's what I read on the Tucows site.

Bless you, honey! *mek*

I use Gif Builder but you need to know how to set the options to get them to look ok. That is:

- use Best Palette under colors
- set depth to highest you can (8bits/pixel if possible)
- turn on frame optimization

...etc. Basically play around with the settings and tweak them up as high as possible while keeping file size under the 40kb limit (for LJ, at least).

I do all my animated gifs in gif builder.

Yeah, that definitely helps too. Optimize the individual frames as much as possible first, them load them into Gif Builder.

Thank you, this is what I need. I am going to give GIF Builder another go tonight. Am I right that the images have to be either gifs or tiffs? Can you just rename the jpeg, or will that not work?

You should reformat the images you're working from from jpg to gif, and max out their quality in the conversion process. Just renaming them I don't think will do the trick.

It does take a while to figure out the tricks to get it to work right, but GifBuilder will eventually do it for ya.
