Nov. 8th, 2006 03:11 pmThis time yesterday, Indiana had two Democratic seats in Congress. Today we have five. Out of NINE. And Indiana managed to get back the state house, which will make the Republican Indiana Senate and it's super-DOMA ways a little less gross. If every Indiana Democrat who whined at me that it doesn't make a difference because Indiana aaaaaaaalways goes red were here right now, I'd (affectionately) bonk their nose and tell them see? Voting DOES make a difference!
You know what I think the big message is? That the era of the Clinton govern from the center right style of Democrat is over. Well, maybe not officially over, but the beginning of the end. Give us some real economically progressive candidates, you know, those people who believe in really unsexy stuff like a living wage, health care, and unions and not a choice between that one Republican and that other Republican. As gross as I thought the attack ads were against Harold Ford Jr., I personally was disappointed in him. A conservative marriage-is-between-a-man-and-a-woman Christian who supported that horrible bankruptcy bill? No wonder he couldn't muster enough support. And Jim Webb might not be so close right now if we was a Democrat longer than 5 minutes before the primary.
Anyway-- I'm gobsmacked with happiness. Vali and I refreshed DCCC's page every 5 minutes until the flash streamers and donkeys took over and froze my entire computer and Casey Katt was yelling at us to go to bed besides.
I'm still wondering if my ex-friend who went to The Dark Side won his race for WV state senate. I hope not.
