How ya doin'? Name's Diamondhead-- *doh!*
Jun. 23rd, 2001 11:22 amSo sleepy yesterday i could hardly keep my eyes open. After reading Vali's movie reviews yesterday i decided to dig out my copy of Suspiria that i dubbed from Vali ages ago. Beatnikside, you're absolutely right-- most of the time it's more interesting to read her reviews than it is to watch the movie. she's keen! :-D
but while rewinding i got a hankering to watch the movie on the tape right before it, an old Robert Mitchum movie called "Night of the Hunter". it's...beyond creepy. Robert Mitchum is so fucking sinister-- you want to hide under the covers and hope the boogieman doesn't get you. you'd think that movies from back in the day weren't scary but you'd be so wrong.
for some ungodly reason i decided to let this movie run while i drifted off to sleep, which took almost no time at all. i was exhausted.
But then Vali called me and was so wonderful. She read my journal entry and said we wanted to show up at my door with elephant ears. I don't know, i just melted. i told her i'd lay the elephant ears down in a cool dry place and then pick her up and whirl her around and squeeze on her and eat elephant ears later. she's so good to me, Curtis! just watch out for the crinolines!
our conversation veered between maudlin and the goofy until i got to the scene in Night of the Hunter (the tape was still running through our conversation) where the woman is in the car at the bottom of the lake. her hair's waving across her face and the lens is shimmering and the camera *doesn't look away*. for like a real long time. Want nightmare material? I've got it for you right here. Vali yelled Turn it Off! Turn it Off!!! while i scrambled for CodeName Diamondhead while creepy drowned girls were still on my screen. i actually saw her face when i went to bed, but thank goodness i was too tired to dwell on it.
if you like MST3K, Codename Diamondhead is one of the better ones. and it has Mike Nelson in it-- *dreeeamy.*
Right now i'm watching the short before The Violent Years and laughing helplessly. you'd think it wouldn't crack me up after the millionth viewing, but it still does.
and the short has one of my favorite riffs:
My little sister is an animal!
Oh yeah? Well i'm the beastmaster!

I'm not going to get anything done this weekend. i'm so sleepy and relaxed. maybe a little writing, a little paperwork, but definitely not now. it feels so good to lay about right now.
