(no subject)

Nafije didn't pass her driver's test today-- i was so bummed for her, she was so brokenhearted. I think maybe she should've taken the written test instead of hearing the questions and seeing them on the screen- i think the format threw her. English isn't her first language, but she's doing so well, and last time she only missed passing by one question.

it doesn't help that she's under a lot of pressure (mostly from herself) to pass the test because she's so dependent on other people to drive her to work and it's driving her batty.

It was tough, and i suck at consoling people. I just said, 'sorry' about a million times, don't give up, and we'll go back next week. You wouldn't believe the stupid shit they ask you-- actually i do (vaguely), but i know that if all of us were given a driver's test right now most of us wouldn't pass it. Do you know how at what distance you should dim your highbeams when you approach an oncoming vehicle? I don't either. I just hope that she doesn't get herself into a block over the whole thing, because you can feel it coming on in her.

on a lighter note, listening to npr's backyard wrestling story was sooooo funny. i think the 1 in 10 number is a vast understatement, to go by these guys. it was all about bonding with the guys, releasing all their excess tension, and pounding fists and rolling around on the mat. One of the guys even referred to "Fight Club." i don't think any of them know what the source of all this mysterious tension is coming from. Oh, but someday!

oh well-- just a few more emails and i'm off to the wilds of Va...
